Redefining the Future of Education at OISE, University of Toronto

Redefining the Future of Education at OISE, University of Toronto

Deeply inspired after an insightful visit to the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (JICS) Laboratory School today.

A sincere thank you to Principal Richard Messina and Vice Principal Chriss Bogert for the exceptional tour and for sharing their profound expertise in laboratory school education. Our exchange on pedagogy reaffirmed that the most impactful learning environments are built on three non-negotiable pillars:

  • Psychological Security: The essential bedrock for intellectual risk-taking.
  • Developmental Approach: Meeting every child precisely where they are.
  • Inquiry-Based Learning: Shifting the focus from "finding answers" to "cultivating wonder."

Three Global Strategies for 2026 and Beyond:

  • Psychological Safety First – Innovation cannot flourish without a secure emotional foundation.
  • Inquiry-Driven Curriculum – Empowering students to be the architects of their own learning journeys.
  • Visible Learning – Utilizing documentation to ensure the thinking process is as valued as the final result.

I am excited to bring these global insights back to our community at the Erindale Academy as we continue to evolve our pedagogical practices for a rapidly changing world.
